On Friday, March 1, 2019, the Iron Generals competed in the 2019 Top Form Lift Off- a high school powerlifting competition that has been going on for more than 20 years! This competition consists of squat, bench press and deadlift. We are excited to announce that this year, our team broke two Salem High school records!
Kia Haskell, a Junior, won the overall competition with a NEW Salem High School record of 680 Lbs. Kia squatted 240lbs, bench pressed 105 lbs and had a competition record deadlift of 335lbs putting her second in the competition's history. Alexandria Cary became the youngest Salem girl to ever make the 500lb club at 13 years old. This benchmark club is achieved when a lifter's 3 lift total comes in at over 500lbs. Most are lucky to accomplish this by their senior year! The Iron Generals girls team was led by HS senior, Alyssa Loveland. Alyssa took first place in all 3 lifts in her weight class with a 600 lb 3 lift total. Alyssa won the girls Total WT / WT lifted % for the competition. Junior Hailey Persad won the bench press with a strong 125lb press. This year’s 500 lb club members include Abby Done – 595lbs, Kalyn Hayes – 560lbs, Hailey Persad – 500lbs and Madison Persad – 520lbs. The boys were led by HS senior, Garrett Ashton, who placed first in his weight class for pulling a deadlift of 450 lbs. Mason Turcie placed first in all 3 lifts with a 200lb bench press, 310lb squat and 335lb deadlift. Mason's 3 lift total of 845 lbs gave him an all-state rank in the total wt/ wt lifted %.
Great job Generals!
